Olajuwon’s Masjid

He converted an old bank building in downtown Houston, Texas into a masjid. The bank vaults have been converted into a library.

Just a slight correction to the article, which states that Yoruba is a “Nigerian dialect”.

Yoruba is a language in its own right, not a Nigerian “dialect”. There is no language called Nigerian therefore it cannot have any dialects. Yoruba is the language of the Yoruba tribe.

    Asalamu alaykum,

Danish: We would certainly enjoy seeing the pictures if you are able to post them in sha Allah.

Patience: I’m still not sure about it, something just seems a bit off.

Kris: I had never thought about that but it’s a nice way to look at it.

    As-Salaamu ‘alaikum,

In London there are at least two mosques which were formerly pubs – one of them, run by Nigerians, is on the Old Kent Road and the other, run by Asians, is somewhere round Bow. I was told that the latter faces the qibla exactly, but the OKR one is a very fine mosque ma sha Allah.

    Asalamu alaykum,

Masha’Allah, I can’t think of use more blessed for former pubs than to become masajid. Which reminds me that the MSA at one local university converted a former women’s locker room into the campus musallah.
